Erkeskin wins five medals at the Turkish National Clubs Championship
What could have been a stressful situation turned into a fun experience for new Columbia 300 Amateur staffer Taygun Erkeskin.
The 24-year-old right-hander used Columbia 300 equipment to navigate through tough lane conditions to win five medals at the Turkish National Clubs Championship September 19-22 in Istanbul.
As a member of the Istanbul Bowling Club, Erkeskin took home gold medals in Men’s Trios, Men’s Team and Men’s All Events. He also won a silver medal in Men’s Doubles and a bronze medal in Men’s Masters.
“It was the first time we have staff in the country, and I was very excited for the offer to be a member,” said Erkeskin. “This tournament was a challenge for me to prove my skills.”
Competitors bowled on a pair of official tournament patterns, one 35 feet in length and one 43 feet long. For the longer oil conditions, Erkeskin used the Columbia 300 World Beater. For the shorter pattern, Erkeskin turned to the Columbia 300 Freeze.
“Since the patterns were Sport Bowling-compliant, control of the ball motion was the key,” he said. “The World Beater and the Freeze were very easy to control, even with my high rev rate.”
Medals for All Events were awarded for the top three players after the 18 games of competition. The top eight players advanced to the Masters match play competition, which featured best-of-three match play.
“It was fun competing because of trusting and knowing that my equipment will handle every possible situation,” he said.
Erkeskin said the patterns were more difficult than anything he had seen in his limited International competition. But with Columbia 300 equipment, he says the more challenging conditions became fun.
“I always had a hard time matching the equipment with the environment, and at some point, I often get confused. But this was the first time that I enjoyed playing on a tough pattern. The anxiety turned out to be fun for me.”
Gediz Ege is part-owner of Trianka Products & Services, the exclusive distributor of EBI brands in Turkey. He says that Erkeskin represented the Columbia 300 brand well at the Championship.
“The National Clubs Championship is the biggest event In Turkey,” he said. “As the distributors of the brands, we are very excited to see how the staffers would do for the first time. We’re so proud of Taygun’s success, and look forward to his bright future with Columbia 300.”
